Gluten Free Fried Food and Burgers at Quaker Steak and Lube

Sometimes you just need some bar food. As a gluten free eater, there are few things better than being able to sit down at a restaurant to watch a game or just chow down and confidently order some safe, gluten free FRIED food.

It’s no secret in the gluten free world that safe “nice” or healthy gluten free restaurant food is so much easier to find than safe bar food, making fried food the ark of the covenant around here.

So when you do find a place with a dedicated gluten free frier, it’s something to be cherished, supported, and enjoyed often. This is exactly what I do with Quaker Steak!

Before you stop reading and run out the door to get some, I should add that they also have a regular gluten frier as well. So, you do need to tell your server that you can’t eat gluten and need the gluten free version of your food.

With that being said, I have been to the Florence, KY Quaker Steak location many, many, many times and have never had an issue there. I feel confident and safe when I eat at Quaker. It also helps that the staff is super nice and caring. They never make me feel like a bother for ordering gluten free and for double checking with them when the food comes out to make sure that it is, indeed, gluten free.

But, enough about that, let’s talk about food!!

Quaker’s gluten free offerings include Fully Loaded Nachos with chicken or chili, Peel Out Potato Skins, Bone-In Wings, and fries. With a gluten free bun, burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches are also on the table.

Gluten free eaters can also get saucy and spicy with over 15 gluten free wing sauces and two gluten free dustings or rubs. But who says the sauces are just for wings? I love to dip the nachos in the Jalapeño Honey and dunk the fries in the Haute Parm, yummmmmm.

Here’s the skinny—or not so skinny in this case, but you never get to eat like this, so indulge yourself—on the best gluten free food at Quaker Steak.

Fully Loaded Nachos – I have a hard time coming here and not getting the nachos. If I happen to have a burger craving, which is often, I’ll still get these bad boys as an appetizer—and share them with my family, of course! The nachos include queso and cheddar jack cheese, as well as pick de gallo, cilantro lime sour cream, and your choice of either chicken or chili. I’m a sucker for some good chili nachos. But, just a warning, they are a little to a lot sloppier than the chicken. I’m usually in a food coma if I eat either type of nachos by myself, but it’s well worth it.

Peel-Out Potato Skins – It’s pretty nice to have multiple appetizer options that are as delicious as these. There is something so homey and satisfying about Quaker’s potato skins. I think the nostalgia of eating potato skins must call me back to simpler gluten eating times. I really got into these when I was pregnant with my second princess. Something about the plain yet crispness of the potatoes, mixed with the savoriness of the cheddar-jack, bacon, and scallions, and topped with the coolness of the sour cream was just what the doctor ordered to cut through the distress of morning sickness. I continue to order the potato skins when they are calling to me and fondly remember chowing down for two.

Burgers – Speaking of being pregnant, I was iron deficient during my last pregnancy so I ate a lot of burgers (yes, we are pinning the prego burger cravings on anemia). As a matter of fact, I still do enjoy Quaker’s burgers on a regular basis, some habits die hard. I recently discovered how much I like their Hangover Burger, so I don’t think I’ll be giving these up any time soon. As you can imagine the Hangover Burger includes cheddar, bacon, and a fried egg. It’s like breakfast and lunch had a baby of their own. If you’re into a smaller burger, lucky for you, Quaker just brought back their smash burgers. Picture a thin steak burger type burger.  If the Hangover Burger is BIG, and it kinda is, the smash burger is just right. Both with the gluten free bun of course!

Bone-In Wings – Wings are also a treat for the gluten free crowd. My husband even says that Quaker’s gluten free wings taste better than their regular wings. Probably because our gluten free frier doesn’t have a ton of breading crap floating around in it. There are so many gluten free sauce choices, it just depends on what you are in the mood for, but some of my favorite are Golden Garlic, Haute Parm, Boom Boom, Kentucky Bourbon, and Garlic Parm. If I’m feeling really spicy, I’ll eat one or two of my husband’s Supercharged wings. He’s awesome and orders his gluten free as well so we can share ;).

Chicken Club – If I’m in the mood for something slightly healthier maybe, I’ll get the Chicken Club with grilled chicken and a gluten free bun—with gluten free fries of course!

The menu may vary slightly by location. Find your local menu here. Always remember to tell your server that you want the gluten free yada yada yada, and also feel free to confirm that it is the gluten free yada yada yada when it comes out.

As a bonus, if you enjoy adult beverages, Quaker also now serves Nutrl—vodka hard seltzers with fruit juice. I still like High Noons slightly more, but both are such a step up from Truly and White Claw, I don’t even know how I used to drink those.

Enjoy your gluten free bar food!!!
