An Epic Gluten Free Super Bowl for the Ages

I love Super Bowl food the way a lot of people love Thanksgiving food. There aren’t many times during the year when you have a great excuse to make your favorite bar food and ultra savory appetizers at home.

Bar food at bars is kind of the great white buffalo of gluten free food. So why not take this opportunity to make yourself the junky gluten free dishes that aren’t often available to you out in the world?

It’s good for the soul to indulge in some ultra-savory party food sometimes—especially for us gluten free folk who have to pass on fried and fast food items so often in our daily lives.

Combine your favorite game day food with your favorite gluten free hard seltzers or wine, the pageantry of the Super Bowl, and some hilarious commercials, and it’s a win-win-win. No matter what team you are rooting for!

It wasn’t til I started buying ingredients to perfect these recipes that I realized that the majority of them have one thing in common, other than being totally delicious—cheese! Though a lot of different kinds…shredded mozzarella, mozzarella balls, cheddar, Parmesan, and cream cheese! Yummmmmmmm. It’s the Super Bowl, let’s indulge, you deserve this!

Importantly, none of these recipes were hard to make or took more than 20 minutes prep. Many took a lot less than that even. So feel free to knock out more than one recipe on game day for your enjoyment.

So what are some of my favorite gluten free Super Bowl dishes? I’d thought you’d never ask!

Gluten Free Tater Tot Nachos aka Party Potatoes “The Halftime Spectacle”

These are a remake of something I was super excited to eat at a restaurant once and the restaurant totally missed the mark. This recipe is me doing better. A LOT better!

Have y’all eaten gluten free at Universal Studios in Orlando? I’d love to hear what you had to eat there because Green Eggs & Ham’s tater tots were so disappointing. My Tater Tot Nachos kick Universal’s tater tot’s butt. This dish even looks fun with the pops of color from the peppers, onion, and pepperoni. Enjoy this gluten free Super Bowl delight!

Gluten Free Tater Tot Nachos Ingredients

  • 3/4 Bag Ore-Ida Tater Tots (or other GF brand)
  • 1 Cup Shredded Mozzarella
  • 1 Cup Pepperoni
  • 1 Cup Diced Bell Pepper
  • 3/4 Cup Red Onion
  • Your Favorite Pizza Sauce for Dipping

Gluten Free Tater Tot Nachos Instructions

  1. Bake tots according to instructions on bag until they are just a minute or two shy of being finished (crispy brown).
  2. Remove from oven and top with mozzarella, pepperoni, onions, and peppers.
  3. Bake for an additional 3-5 minutes, until cheese is melted and toppings are warm.
  4. Serve with a side of your favorite pizza sauce for dipping.
  5. Be amazed that tater tots taste this amazing.

Gluten Free Parmesan Stuffed Mushrooms “The Highbrow Commercial”

This is Super Bowl food, y’all, so these mushrooms are as fancy as we’re gonna get. I didn’t do bacon on this round when I was taking my pictures, and I wish I would have. I prefer them with bacon, but they are definitely still good without it.

The kids wouldn’t touch these with a ten foot pole of course, but my (gluten-eating) husband especially enjoyed them! The mushrooms are also a nice addition if you are looking for a healthier Super Bowl side or appetizer as mushrooms are good sources of B vitamins, potassium, selenium, copper, and sometimes vitamin D.

Tip time – This was hard for me as I’m a thorough produce washer, but don’t overly rinse your mushrooms with water as they’ll absorb it. Use minimal water and a paper towel to clean them.

Gluten Free Parmesan Stuffed Mushroom Ingredients

  • 6 Portobello Mushrooms
  • 6 Freshly Minced Garlic Cloves
  • 1 1/2 Cup Shredded Parmesan
  • 2 1/2 Cup Rice Chex
  • 2 1/2 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • Optional – Bacon Crumbles

Gluten Free Parmesan Stuffed Mushroom Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400.
  2. De-stem the mushrooms.
  3. Bake mushrooms for 15 minutes to release moisture. Remove from oven and dump out excess moisture. Don’t skip this step! Your stuffing will get soggy if you do.
  4. Sautee minced garlic 2-3 minutes over medium heat, just until it starts to brown.
  5. Crunch up Rice Chex in a closed Zip Lock or food processor. Add melted butter, salt, and garlic powder.
  6. In a large bowl, mix Parmesan with minced garlic and place in mushrooms.
  7. Top with Rice Chex mixture.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  9. These things are big! If taking to a party, cut in quarters to make more shareable.

Gluten Free Jalapeño Poppers “The One Everyone Will be Talking About”

I love everything about these. Don’t tell the other gluten free Super Bowl dishes, but these gluten free jalapeño poppers might be my favorite!

All of these ingredients are awesome on their own so they are bound to add up to one superb dish. Also, the bomb flavor combination coupled with the buttery crunch of the Rice Chex makes my brain think that these can’t possibly be gluten free in the best way. They are just that satisfying.

Tip Time—I used the same Rice Chex topping on the stuffed mushrooms. So, if you are making both, double up so you don’t have to make it twice.

Gluten Free Jalapeño Popper Ingredients

  • 7 Jalapeños
  • 4 oz Cream Cheese (I Use 1/3 of the fat Philadelphia)
  • 1 Cup Shredded Cheddar
  • 1 Cup Rice Chex
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • Optional: Bacon Crumbles

Gluten Free Jalapeño Popper Instructions

  1. Let cream cheese sit out for 15-20 minutes to soften up.
  2. While cream cheese is softening, slice jalapeños in half, long-ways. It’s easier to do this if you cut of the stems first. You may want to wear gloves for this part, that juice hurts!
  3. Cut out the innards and seeds of the jalapeños.
  4. Preheat oven to 400.
  5. Crunch up Rice Chex in a closed Zip Lock or food processor. Add melted butter, salt, and garlic powder.
  6. Mix shredded cheddar in with the cream cheese.
  7. Spread cheese mixture into jalapeño halves.
  8. Top with Rice Chex topping.
  9. Bake for 18-20 minutes in 400 degree oven.
  10. Poppers will be hot! Allow to cool for a few minutes before digging in. Enjoy!

Gluten Free Skyline Dip “The Dark Horse”

If you’ve never had Skyline Dip or even heard of it before, give it a chance! I know the rest of the country likes to make fun of us Cincinnati folk for our chili, but this is the EASIEST, most addicting, game day appetizer you will find. Prove me wrong in the comments.

I admit it’s not much of a looker. My aunt once brought it to a party in Boston and no one touched it!!! I can’t even imagine. Sacrilegious, I’d say. Once you take your first bite of this gluten free Super Bowl dark horse, looks won’t matter. Trust me.

Though Cincinnati is the home of Skyline, I’ve seen cans of it in Kroger’s in other states around the country. So, keep an eye out and if you see it, give it a try! I can’t imagine that you’d be sorry. It’s also available on Amazon, though you do need to buy an 8-pack of cans…

Gluten Free Skyline Dip Ingredients

  • 10 – 15 oz Skyline Chili (whatever size can or frozen package you can find is fine)
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese
  • 1 1/2 Cup Cheddar
  • Tortilla Chips or Fritos

Gluten Free Skyline Dip Directions

  1. Let cream cheese sit out for 15-20 minutes if you’d like to spread it more easily.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350.
  3. Spread cream cheese evenly in a 8×8 casserole dish or glass pie dish.
  4. Layer in the Skyline Chili.
  5. Top with cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake for about 15 minutes, things should be bubbly.
  7. Serve with Fritos and/or your favorite corn tortilla chips.

Gluten Free Wings “The MVP”

Is it really the Super Bowl if you aren’t eating wings?! I like drums, my husband likes flats, I suppose we are the perfect duo! Which are you? Buying wings that are already separated is definitely preferable as separating them is a hard and messy job for sure. Not only are these roasted wings crispy and flavorful, they also make a delicious pairing with any of the other gluten free Super Bowl recipes in this post.

But, If you just want to make wings with a super easy side dish, we eat Ore-Ida frozen fries allllll the time. I love Ore-Ida’s Extra Crispy Fast Food Fries. You can also buy some celery or baby carrots for an ultra-easy and healthy side dish option for your gluten free wings.

Tip Time– Get yourself a wire baking rack. It really helps to crisp up the wings. They are also healthier when they aren’t sitting there baking in all their oil drippings. The baking rack also makes for a super easy clean up when you cover the pan underneath with foil and throw it away after.

Gluten Free Wings Ingredients

  • 20 Chicken Wings
  • 1 Tablespoon Chicken Seasoning (We like Chef Paul Magic Poultry Seasoning)
  • 1/2 Cup Ken’s Italian Dressing
  • Wing Sauce (We like Frank’s Buffalo, Sweet Baby Ray’s Garlic Parm, and Sweet Baby Ray’s Memphis Style)
  • Ken’s Ranch or Bleu Cheese
  • Optional – Carrots and/or Celery

Gluten Free Wings Instructions

  1. Toss wings in Italian dressing til evenly coated and let marinate in fridge for at least a hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 400.
  3. Arrange wings on wire baking rack, with foil-covered pan underneath.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes.
  5. Place in large bowl and coat in your favorite wing sauce (or separate into smaller bowls and use multiple sauces) and serve with ranch or bleu cheese; raw carrots and celery optional.

Gluten Free Caprese Salad “First to Draft a Kicker”

To have a salad as part of your Super Bowl lineup just seems wrong, but since this one doesn’t even have any lettuce and is primarily made out of cheese, we’ll let it pass!

Gluten Free Caprese Salad Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Mozzarella Balls
  • 1 Cup Halved Cherry Tomatoes
  • 1 Tablespoon Dried Basil or 1/4 Cup Fresh
  • Balsamic Glaze Drizzle to Taste (We love Monari Federzoni Balsamic Vinegar Glaze)

***Just so you know, the quantities above were just right for a side dish for 2 people, but if you’re planning on taking it to a party I’d probably triple or quadruple it.

Gluten Free Caprese Salad Instructions

  1. Combine mozzarella balls, halved cherry tomatoes, and basil together in large bowl.
  2. Drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  3. That’s it!

Are you getting hungry yet? I hope you saw a thing or two that look good! All of these recipes were fast and easy to make with minimal prep, so pick a few and go as wild Jason Kelce on Super Bowl Sunday.
